A Bride and her Flower Girl - my favourite wedding photos

In today’s My Favourite Wedding Photos I explore the bond between a bride and her flower girl and why it is such a special one.

Of all a bride’s friends and family, they are amongst the select few whom she has chosen to guide her through her wedding day.

I remember (through the foggy mists of time!) being a pageboy when I was around six or seven. It was an incredibly exciting day. I got to dress up (in peach cummerbund and matching waistcoat!), was made a fuss of and even got a present at the end of the day! At every wedding with flowergirls and pageboys I always recognise that same excitement I felt.

And as a documentary photographer I’m always looking for little moments like the one here that tell the story of the wedding through their eyes. I remember this moment so clearly. Everyone was filing out of the church after the ceremony. The bride was surrounded by guests but spotted her flower girl and scooped her up to give her a big hug. Just as she did this, behind her, one of the bridesmaids spotted the moment and broke into a huge smile.

Special moments like these happen all the time at weddings and I always feel honoured that it’s my job to capture them for the bride and groom so they can treasure them for years to come.
