Wedding Photography at St Helen's Bishopsgate & St Andrew Undershaft, London
Having got married in London myself, I always relish photographing weddings in the capital. I was therefore thrilled when Linh and Jon asked me to be their wedding photographer for their big day. The fact that I had never shot at either St Helen's Bishopsgate or St Andrew Undershaft was an added bonus. I love working at new venues. It allows me to see the venue with completely fresh eyes and use my camera to get a new perspective on it.My day began at The Town Hall Hotel, a beautiful venue in London's East End which I have found to be a big favourite for brides getting ready for their wedding over the years. When I arrived there was a real buzz around the suite with Linh's family helping her getting ready. Her make up was being done by on of her bridesmaids while her nieces chased each other around the suite in their bridesmaid dresses. Everywhere you looked, a different member of the family was busy doing their hair, putting on shoes or, in the case of Linh's father, quietly practicing his speech in one of the bedrooms. When they were ready to leave, I got some photos of Linh walking down the hotel's beautiful staircase before dashing off to St Helen's Bishopsgate eager to get some guests arriving at the church. Jon was welcoming friends and family and seemed very relaxed. When Linh arrived, she was a little early, so chose to stay in the car with her wedding party until it was time for the service. I spotted one of her nieces leaning out of the car looking excitedly at the church - one of my favourite photos from the day.The service was beautiful and very special to Linh and Jon who regularly attend services there. St Helen's is perfect for wedding photography - there are loads of vantage points that gave me an amazing view of the service. Afterwards, there was a champagne reception at the church with guests chatting throughout the church which was a lovely touch.Linh and Jon then travelled with me to Leadenhall Market to do some couple shots. It is a favourite spot of theirs, so was lovely to be there with them on their wedding day. After that, it was off to St Andrew Undershaft for their reception. This is the first reception I've ever photographed in an actual church and it created a wonderfully unique atmosphere. After the delicious meal and the speeches, the bride and groom went from table to table making sure they got to spend some time with as many of their guests as possible. I left with the party still in full swing with laughter ringing around the ancient arches. Some kind words from Linh and Jon: "Our wedding photos are simply stunning. Jack was an absolute pleasure to work with and managed to capture all our special moments and more. The whole album is amazing - we have trouble picking our favourites! Thank you so much Jack, it's everything we could have hoped for."
